The tea culture in Taiwan is flourishing, with hand-shaken tea becoming a popular beverage among young people in recent years, in addition to the traditional tea brewing methods. Nantou County, being an important tea-producing region in Taiwan with a wide variety of tea types and extensive cultivation areas, hosts the ‘Nantou World Tea Expo.’ This event has garnered international attention, guiding participants through the experience of tea culture, including tea picking, tea processing, tea knowledge, tea appreciation, and tea tasting. In the past, it was held in conjunction with the ‘Chocolate and Coffee Festival,’ but this year, the county government is organizing it separately, aiming to expand its scale and allow more people to witness the grandeur of Nantou’s tea culture event.
The ‘2023 Nantou Global Tea Expo’ has been listed as an international-level event by the Tourism Bureau. This year, it will be held from October 7 to October 15, 2023, around the Zhongxing New Village Grand Field. The event will feature several large-scale experiential activities and performances, such as ‘Tea and Music,’ ‘Thousand-Person Tea Gathering,’ ‘Thousand-Person Tea Rolling,’ ‘International Tea Ceremony,’ ‘Tea Mind and Body Experience’ (tea aroma senses, hand weighing tea, traditional tea roasting), and promotion of Taiwan’s top-grade tea tasting. Additionally, there will be multiple tea-themed excursions to promote the tea culture of Nantou. English-guided tours will be available on-site, aiming to attract international visitors to participate and showcase the cultural, culinary, and natural charms of Nantou, thereby promoting tourism development and international exchanges in Taiwan.
In addition to specially planned tea-themed excursions to Mingjian Township, Zhushan Township, and Lugu Township, a total of four tea-growing areas, this year, you can also take this opportunity to explore the surroundings of Zhongxing New Village and other exciting attractions in Nantou County.
