The “2025 Sun Moon Lake Fireworks Music Carnival”, organized by the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration of the Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, officially opened on the evening of September 20 at Ita Thao Pier Plaza. The first large-scale fireworks music show, “Nine Heavens Resound Over Ming Lake”, drew over 19,000 visitors to the lakeside, offering a spectacular feast for the eyes and ears. The opening featured 20 seconds of dazzling fireworks, combined with powerful drumming performances and traditional folk elements, creating a grand and awe-inspiring atmosphere that showcased Taiwan’s unique cultural energy. The show concluded with a 340-second fireworks finale, illuminating Sun Moon Lake in a cascade of lights and earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Distinguished guests attending the concert included Ke Jianxing, Director of the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration; Deng Wengui, Deputy Director of the Daguan Power Plant, Taiwan Power Company; Xu Zhenrong, Leader of the Jiutian Folk Arts Troupe; Cai Fengqin, Principal of Ita Thao Elementary School; and several chairpersons from the Sun Moon Lake Tourism Alliance. They gathered lakeside to witness the grand event.
The opening performance, led by the Jiutian Folk Arts Troupe, Taiwan’s cultural heritage guardians, featured powerful drumming and a performance by Ita Thao Elementary School students of “Ascending Guanque Tower”, marking the start of the show. The Jiutian Folk Arts Troupe later collaborated with the Chairman Band to deliver a cross-genre performance, blending majestic drumming with Taiwanese rock music. They performed 11 representative pieces, including “Hit Me”, “Nine Heavens Xuan Nu”, “Drumming Life”, and “Gods Protect Taiwan”, inviting the audience to cheer, wave along, and participate in interactive games featuring rolling fortune peaches and lucky gold ingots, elevating the atmosphere to its peak.
Sun Moon Lake Fireworks Music Carnival is renowned for its water-surface explosion fireworks. This year, a record was set with 16-inch diameter underwater explosion fireworks, where sparks erupted instantly from the lake surface, blending with mist and light to create a breathtaking spectacle. This was the first time in Taiwan that such large-scale underwater explosions were performed in a public event, marking a new milestone for the Fireworks Festival and providing a spectacular finale to the carnival’s opening night.
In addition to the impressive fireworks concert, visitors could enjoy a limited-time “Brilliant Sun Moon Lake – Explore with You” postcard stamping activity and discounts at surrounding Sun Moon Lake shops, allowing guests to not only experience the visual and auditory feast but also collect beautiful souvenirs and enjoy local offers, creating lasting memories of their trip.
Ke Jianxing, Director of the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration, stated that the 2025 Sun Moon Lake Fireworks Music Carnival is a three-month long, series-style event from September to November, continuing the traditional core themes of music, fireworks, and sports events, as well as large outdoor concerts. This year, six series of activities have been planned to showcase Sun Moon Lake’s diverse daytime and nighttime landscapes and provide a variety of tourism experiences. Upcoming events include:
