The 2026 Nantou World Tea Expo will take place from October 3 to 11 at Zhongxing New Village in Nantou City, featuring 35 themed pavilions. A press conference was held on September 24 in the first-floor lobby of the Nantou County Government building, featuring an opening performance, a launch ceremony, and tea-tasting activities to build excitement for the nine-day event. Deputy Magistrate Wang Jui-te joined distinguished guests in promoting the event, inviting visitors from Taiwan and abroad to enjoy premium tea, appreciate tea ceremonies, explore特色 pavilions, and embark on tea-country excursions. This year’s theme, “Good Fortune and Tea Aromas Ahead,” promises a memorable celebration of tea culture.
County councilors Chen Yi-chun, Chang Hsiu-chih, Lin Ju-yang, Chien Chien-hsiang, and Chang Wan-tzu attended the event, along with Section Chief Chuang Yueh-feng of the Agriculture and Food Agency, Huang Cheng-tsung, Director of the Central Taiwan Branch of the Tea and Beverage Research Station, Tseng Ming-jui, Secretary-General of the Nantou County Farmers’ Association, representatives from township and city farmers’ associations, and several local representatives.
Deputy Magistrate Wang stated that the Nantou World Tea Expo is now in its 16th edition. The county government continues to enhance the value of Nantou’s tea industry and tourism sector while introducing Nantou’s premium teas to the world. This year’s event retains popular features from previous editions while introducing new attractions, including 35 themed pavilions, more than 200 exhibition and sales booths, tea ware displays, and food areas. Major activities include a Thousand-Person Tea Gathering, a Thousand-Person Hand-Shaken Tea Experience, the Malasang Picnic, and the much-loved “One Heart, Two Nights” concerts.
International cultural exchanges will showcase diverse tea traditions from Persia, Japan, India, Tibet, and Taiwan. Tea-country excursions have also expanded to five routes covering Zhushan, Lugu, Mingjian, Nantou City, and Yuchi. A flag-raising ceremony will be held on National Day, while families can participate in activities such as the Six Senses of Tea, traditional tea roasting, and hand-weighing tea.
Deputy Magistrate Wang expressed his hope that the Expo would further integrate tea into daily life, culture, tourism, and education while promoting technological innovation, smart development, low-carbon practices, and sustainability. He invited everyone to visit Zhongxing New Village from October 3 to 11 to enjoy fine tea and experience the relaxing atmosphere of tea culture.
According to the Nantou County Government’s Department of Agriculture, this year’s 35 themed pavilions cover traditional tea production, agricultural specialties, smart agriculture, local revitalization, and sustainable development. Highlights include the Golden Tea Tasting Pavilion, Sun Moon Lake Black Tea Pavilion, Dong Ding Tea Aroma Pavilion, Shanlinxi Oolong Tea Pavilion, Nantou Young Farmers Pavilion, Smart Agriculture Pavilion, Food and Agriculture Education Pavilion, Tea Culture Exchange Pavilion, and Taste of Sustainable Nantou Pavilion. Together, they present the diverse aspects of Nantou’s tea industry, from cultivation and processing to cultural heritage and technological innovation.
The Department of Agriculture noted that the venue layout has been further improved. The Taiwan Premium Tea Exhibition and Sales Area will be concentrated below the main sports field and equipped with air conditioning. The tea ware area will also offer a comfortable air-conditioned environment, while the agricultural specialties area will feature a high-ceiling, well-ventilated design. These improvements will provide visitors with a more comfortable experience when appreciating tea, tasting different varieties, and shopping for local agricultural products.
The county government continues to promote tea quality management and has incorporated low-carbon practices, smart technology, and youth participation in agriculture into this year’s Expo. Visitors will learn about sustainable concepts such as low-carbon cultivation, energy-efficient tea processing, and resource recycling, while discovering how a new generation of farmers is developing brands and driving agricultural innovation.
To ensure consumer confidence, participating tea farmers must hold qualifications such as agricultural product traceability registration, organic certification, or Taiwan Good Agricultural Practice (TGAP) certification. In addition to premium teas, the event will feature coffee, cocoa, specialty agricultural products, tea ware, and local delicacies, showcasing Nantou’s diverse agricultural offerings.
The International Tea Ceremony Pavilion, set beneath lush camphor trees, will introduce tea cultures from different regions. The newly established Tea Culture Exchange Pavilion will feature Assam and Darjeeling black teas from India, along with specialty teas from counties and cities across Taiwan. Through tea exhibitions, sales, and cultural exchanges, visitors can discover the unique tea traditions of different producing regions and experience the Expo’s growing international appeal.
The tea-country excursion program has expanded from its original routes in Zhushan, Lugu, and Mingjian to include Nantou City and Yuchi Township, offering five routes in total. These excursions take visitors into tea gardens and production areas, where they can experience tea making, tea tasting, and local cuisine. By extending the experience beyond the Expo grounds into tea-producing communities, the program aims to stimulate local tourism and spending.
The Nantou County Government warmly welcomes visitors to enjoy the county’s relaxing atmosphere amid fragrant tea and lush greenery, while supporting local tea farmers and the sustainable development of the tea industry.
