The “Nantou 100K Cycling Town Tour” is entering its fourth year in 2026. This year’s event will span all 13 townships and cities in Nantou County, featuring one flagship 100K challenge event, eight town cycling tours, and three children’s balance bike races, offering a more diverse and enriched experience.
At today’s (May 5) press conference, Deputy Magistrate Wang Jui-de represented the County Magistrate to officially kick off the event. This year’s highlights are especially exciting. For the first time, the route will enter Ren’ai Township, allowing participants to experience the lifestyle of the four Seediq villages. Additionally, cyclists will challenge a high-altitude route in Xinyi Township, reaching nearly 1,906 meters above sea level, combining natural beauty with physical endurance.
A large “instant noodle” installation was specially displayed at the press conference venue, symbolizing the route’s connection to Zhongliao Township’s famous “Instant Noodle Earth God Temple” and the newly opened Jiujiu Peaks Hot Air Balloon Park. Popular routes in Jiji Township, Zhushan Township, and Nantou City will also return. The Jiji route will be extended to Lugu Township, passing Taiwan’s largest diversion weir, traveling through lush green tunnels, and looping back to Jiji town. Through slow-paced cycling tourism, participants will deeply experience the charm and warmth of Nantou’s 13 townships.
Deputy Magistrate Wang expressed gratitude to tourism businesses, associations, temples, and local partners for their strong support. The county government continues to promote low-carbon tourism under its sustainable development goals. By integrating local resources through cycling tourism, the initiative aims to boost the overall tourism industry while ensuring balanced development across all townships. Each township showcases its unique attractions and characteristics.
Through carefully designed cycling routes, both domestic and international visitors are encouraged to explore Nantou’s hidden gems and scenic landscapes. Riding through mountains and countryside, participants can immerse themselves in nature while enjoying a healthy, healing, and sustainable travel experience. This year’s event is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 5,854 kilograms, further advancing the vision of sustainable tourism.
A cycling enthusiast himself, Deputy Magistrate Wang also expressed his hope to personally join the 100K challenge ride if time permits, riding alongside participants to promote low-carbon travel.
