Founded in the Qing Dynasty, Lantian Academy is located on Wenchang Street in Nantou City and is commonly known as Wenchang Temple or Confucius Temple. It is one of the three major ancient monuments in Nantou County, along with Tsaotun Deng Ying Academy and Jiji Ming Xin Academy. The Lantian Academy is a traditional Minnan-style building with courtyard and with exquisitely carved stone pillars, even an old plaque from the Qing Dynasty, all of which demonstrate the unique value of the academy as a representative local temple. Because of its long history, it has undergone many renovations and alterations to present the full splendor of the time. Therefore, although it no longer functions as a college, it still attracts many students who come to seek refuge and enjoy the cultural baptism and inculcation.
