Taiwan’s Largest Formosan Cherry Blossom Festival Kicks Off on February 1st – The New Cherry Blossom Crystal Cable Car is the Highlight

As waves of cold air pass through and the weather warms up, it is the best time for cherry blossoms to bloom. The largest cherry blossom festival in Taiwan, the “2024 Formosan Cherry Blossom Festival,” accredited by the Japan Cherry Blossom Association as an overseas cherry blossom viewing spot, is about to begin. From February 1st to March 10th, more than 5,000 cherry trees in the park will bloom in succession until early March. The park offers a variety of cherry blossom experiences, such as cherry blossom meals, tea parties, and markets, and also features the exclusive “Cherry Blossom Crystal Cable Car” for a unique viewing experience. The opening press conference was held in the park today (2/1), officially launching the event.

County Magistrate Hsu Shu-hua stated that to integrate winter tourism resources, the county government is organizing the “2023 Nantou Flower Carnival,” with the Formosan Cherry Blossom Festival being a particularly distinctive event. She expressed gratitude for the participation of businesses and the support from the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Every spring, the most renowned cherry blossom viewing spot in Taiwan is undoubtedly the Formosan Cultural Village. With over 5,000 cherry trees blooming in unison, including the vibrant pink Formosan Hundred-layer Cherry, the delicate pink Fuji and Yoshino cherries, and the unique “White Lover” Taiwan Snow Cherry found only in the Formosan Cultural Village, the cherry blossoms bloom from February 1st until early March, earning the exclusive certification from the Japan Cherry Blossom Association as the only Japanese overseas cherry blossom viewing spot. Visitors can enjoy a dreamlike sea of cherry blossoms in Taiwan without having to travel to Japan. Additionally, the festival is not limited to daytime viewing; the “Taiwan’s First Night Cherry Blossom” event extends business hours until 7 PM from February 10th to March 3rd, offering limited cherry blossom lanterns for a walk through the cherry blossom light tunnel, creating a dazzling and romantic night.

A major highlight of the 2024 Formosan Cherry Blossom Festival is the “Cherry Blossom Crystal Cable Car,” for which the Japan Cherry Blossom Association will select the new 30th Cherry Blossom Queen this year. The Formosan Cultural Village cherishes this cultural exchange between Taiwan and Japan and has specially created the limited-time crystal cable car to celebrate, with new pink-painted cabins set against the backdrop of blooming cherry trees, heralding the expanded celebration of this year’s festival. The Cherry Blossom Queen will be invited to witness the precious cherry blossom friendship on February 17th. The festival is filled with cherry blossom celebrations from morning to evening, including the authentic “Taiko Drumming to Welcome Spring,” praising the beauty of cherry blossoms, and the energetic “YOSAKOI Dance Flash Mob,” conveying the vibrant atmosphere of spring. From February 10th to March 3rd, during the night cherry blossom period, there will be live performances of “Cherry Blossom Folk Songs” by indigenous singers and the popular “Night Dance Festival” filled with exotic flavors.

This year’s cherry blossom festival offers not only beautiful sights, sounds, and photo opportunities but also unique cherry blossom experiences. On February 16th and March 1st, the Formosan Cultural Village collaborates with the Yuchi Township Office to host the “Cherry Blossom Tea Party,” inviting visitors to enjoy local premium black tea under the soft cherry blossoms. On February 24th, the village partners with a local chef from Puli to offer the “Cherry Blossom Feast” dining experience, combining visual, olfactory, and gustatory pleasures. Additionally, from March 1st to 3rd, the “Yuchi Treasures Plus One Small Farmers Market” invites local specialty stores like Nina Chocolate and small farmers to showcase limited-edition products, offering a full range of cherry blossom-themed food, tea, and souvenirs.

To celebrate the arrival of the 2024 Formosan Cherry Blossom Festival, the Formosan Cultural Village offers special ticket prices of NT$780 per person from now until February 9th, and an afternoon ticket for NT$700 per person from February 15th to March 3rd after 2 PM, inviting everyone to join the most romantic cherry blossom festival in Taiwan. The Nantou County Government also mentions that in addition to the flower carnival events, the “2024 Nantou Lantern Festival” will start on February 3rd, inviting everyone to enjoy flowers during the day and lanterns at night.
